North Carolina Teachers Make The Same Today As They Did in 1970
A couple of things of note from the above graph:
When adjusted for inflation, teachers in North Carolina make as much as they did more than 40 years ago, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, which compiles data for the U.S. Department of Education.
Nationwide, teachers pay decreased between 2000 and 2013. That was the case in North and South Carolina.
In North Carolina, teacher pay (again, adjusted for inflation) has gone down by 14.7% since 2000. No state has seen a bigger decrease in teacher pay.
Governor Pat McCrory and lawmakers have said they want to commit $200 million over the next two years to increase teacher pay in North Carolina, which currently ranks 46th out of 50.
